[edit] Purpose

The purpose of La Raza Student Cultural Center is:

  • To achieve, through cultural programs and events, a greater historical, political and cultural awareness concerning the Chicano/Chicana and Latino/Latina communities.
  • To advocate representation of Chicano/Chicana and Latino/Latina within the University community and administrative structures, as well as within the community at large.
  • To inform Chicano/Chicana and Latino/Latina students about all those issues that affect our education and the general well-being of our communities.
  • To assist in the recruitment, retention and graduation of Chicano/Chicana and Latino/Latina students at the University of Minnesota.
  • To work closely with the academic communities and other external community agencies to more fully achieve our mission.

[1] La Raza Student Cultural Center 1999-2000 Executive Board

The Center has an executive board in charge of approving events and funding. Together, they make decisions for the La Raza SCC with the voice of our membership. Every year elections are held toward the end of the academic year, usually in April. There are six positions available in the executive board. The positions are:

• President’s Chicano Latino Advisory Committee

 (CLAC) Representative.

• Liaison to the Chicano Latino Learning Resource Center and U of

 MN Admissions Office.

• Inter-Cultural Center Representative

• Intercambio Coordinator.

• Youth and Community Outreach Coordinator.

• Newsletter Coordinator


The 1999/2000 Board of Directors consists of:
