Think Outside the Tank
from the Macalester Public Knowledge Base
A group of students is coming together to create a positive student role on campus to improve student life, student roles in decision-making, and to serve as a place for connection between the various decision-making and constituent bodies on campus.
Think Outside the Tank (or simply "the Think Tank") will act as an umbrella organization for such projects as the Independent Study Collective, the Student Forum, the potentially annual "Mactivism 101," and publication of a student org. zine.

[edit] Intro to Campus Activism 2006
A potential second reiteration of last fall's Mactivism 101, an event is in the works in conjunction with Campus Programs' New Student Orientation to introduce first-years (and others) to student activism on campus. This would include recent history of campaigns led by students (Latin@ Studies, Campus Environmentalism, Coke, Mac Bike, Need Blind, Gender-Open Housing, etc.) Also possibly a section on the current state of the administrative power structure at Macalester. Finally, the event will provide ways to become involved in student activism.
Contact David Boehnke with suggestions or questions.
[edit] Student Forums
The Student Forum is an open space for students to:
- Dialogue about the issues we face,
- Develop relationships across difference,
- Create new initiatives and networks of solidarity,
- Find support for our concerns projects and plans,
The aims of TOTT in establishing the Student Forum:
- to strengthen solidarity between students on our campus and communities across the world,
- to break down unwanted divisions within the student body, increase communication, innovation, and experimentation,
- to bring together creative groups and individuals who do not fit into the "student org" format,
- to foster the values and practices of grassroots democracy,
- to allow students to find a voice and make a vision for Macalester.
