DESCRIPTION: To celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the first edition of "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha" (1605) by Cervantes, the Hispanic Studies Department at Macalester College wants to present "KIJOTADAS" a fresh adaptation of the finest book in the Spanish language writen by student Hector Pascual. The intention is to present the immortal myth of Don Quijote to an audience largely unfamiliar with it. Students taking courses in Spanish will attend the performance after having worked with the text in their Labs. Kijotadas approaches the classical text with the intention of re-discovering the words and deeds of the famous characters in Cervantes' masterpiece. This entertaining, political and modern theater adaptation tries to challenge the audience's assumptions about justice and freedom in the global context of the 21st century.
