QU is a student-run cultural organization that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community at Macalester and their straight allies. Students of all sexual orientations are encouraged to participate in social, educational, and political events including a National Coming Out Week celebration, discussion groups, trips to Twin Cities cultural events and other programs to promote awareness and support for people of all genders and sexualities.

Queer Union dedicates itself to the creation of safe spaces for queers and their friends at Macalester College. We endeavor to meet the queer needs of the campus and community at large through dedication to education, social change, personal support, and community-building. Membership is not contingent upon sexual identity, but common social and political agendas.
QU is a process that works for the evolving identities, needs, and ideas of its members. Through community-based activities, we aim to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and promote challenging discussion. The many identities of our members should not inhibit but enhance the work that we do. QU welcomes people of all races, nationalities, gender identities, religions, classes, and sexual orientations.
