This is the Organizing Handbook for students at Macalester. It compiles lessons learned from the long history of student organizing on campus. It is meant to be an organic, ever-changing resource for positive change within the Macalester community.

case study: the removal of the russian department, and its survival http://macalester.edu/committees/epag/russian/

- factors that mattered most: enrollment, stance of russian in comparison schools, the need for an asian languages FTE position
- students actively wrote to the mac weekly
- professors wrote in support of the dept.
- afte the incident, the russian department created a external relations student worker position, intialy filled by the same student who played pivotal role in the survival of the department (possibly to ensure future survival)
