In 2006, the college established a new administrative body, the Institute for Global Citizenship, representing a trend towards better incorporating civic engagement and internationalism into the scholarly activities of the college or, according to some, Macalester's increasing focus on prestige and ability to churn out an elite class of 'world leaders.'
