Anthropology at Macalester is a medium-sized social sciences department located in the basement of Carnegie. It has its own lounge and a computer lab that is used by social science students generally.
Approximately 20 to 30 students graduate with a major in anthropology every year, and the 6 professors provide various connections from job advising to summer internship placements.
Current faculty are Jack Weatherford, Arjun Guneratne, Dianna Shandy, Sonia Patten, Julia Meredith Hess, and Diana Dean.

[edit] Ethnography Lab
Every semester, students can be seen sitting at the lab for hours listening to something and typing furiously, and occassionally breaking into sipping hot chocolate from the water boiler and chatting about their next deadlines. These are students of Anth230: Ethnographic Interviewing class, who spendg up to 5 hours a week transcribing verbatim one hour long interviews.
