ATTN: Ben Johnson, FAC Chair RE: Additional Allocation of Funds request for Latino Rock Concert

During the weekend of April 30th 2004, ¡Adelante! developed the idea of a Latino Rock Concert to take place during the Latino Heritage Month, in order to increase representation and break molds of what constitutes "latin(o)" music.

The idea evolved into bringing the local Latin American rock groups Chamanes and Raíz to the Macalester Campus for September 18th as part of Fallfest and on September 24th as an independent rock concert. No budget was assigned to either event, since equipment was to be provided by the college and groups would be paid no honorarium.

Will Clarke (Latino Heritage Month coordinator) took the initiative and Luis Sandoval (Latin American issues coordinator) is carrying on the details of the event.

I submitted pertinent CERF forms on September 10th, and Mattie White, Assistant Director of Multicultural Life and ¡Adelante!'s advisor, ordered that security guards be posted for the event in order to keep "control" of people. Please contact Mattie (white@macalester.edu, Campus Center 239, x6311) if you wish to discuss the fact that we need security guards.

Campus regulations require security guards to be posted in groups of two for a minimum of four hours. For a wage of $30/hour, this amounts to $240 ($30x4x2) as described in the attached Additional Allocation of Funds Request form. Please contact me (ykim@macalester.edu, 651-307-7937) if you require any additional information on the request and transfer of funds..

For additional inquiries regarding the concert itself, please visit our website (www.adelantemac.org) or contact Luis Sandoval (lsandoval@macalester.edu, 651-206-0906)
