My name is Jessie Buendia. I am the abuelita of the organization. i've been involved in adelante since my first year at mac (2000-01). those were the days when adelante primarily focused on going salsa dancing and going partying together to random clubs around the twin cities! we were also pretty political and brought representatives from the Zapatistas, as well as pro-Fidel students from Cuba, and getting people involved in work around anti-racism. aaah, those were the days.

im excited about the new direction that Adelante is heading in. We've got some bombass people in this group and I can't wait to meet all the new faces. i think its important to focus on building a strong community on campus where students can find support in one another. its also important to remember that we have a bigger community that is growing everday outside of mac who we need to even more strongly connected to.

ive been involved to various degrees in lots of organizations on and off campus. some examples have been diversity committee, mpjc (macpeace), and macslac. off campus includes casa de esperanza, la oportunidad, la clínica, and hispanos in minnesota. i like to attend and support my friends at a lot of spoken word and hip hop events on campus and i would definitely be into connecting any new students to that scene.

i'll be gone next semester to mexico but hopefully my spirit will live on in adelante (i know yong-ho's amazing chronicling will not let it die!)

ciao, jessie
