[edit] Faculty / Staff Advisor
¡Adelante! may petition, upon consensus, a faculty or staff member of Macalester to become its Advisor. The advisor has no vote in the organization.
[edit] Multiple Offices
- The same person may serve in more than one Office;
- The offices of Co-Chair and Treasurer shall not be combined.
[edit] Executive Board Officers
shall have the following powers and responsibilities:
[edit] Co-Chairs
- Are the official spokesperson for the organization;
- Call to order and mediates meetings;
- Call special meetings with the consent of the Executive Board;
- Envision strategic directions to be taken by the organization;
- Engage in sustained conversation with both Issues Coordinators, seeking to find common points of encounter, in pursuit of ¡Adelante!’s purpose as stated in Article II Section 1.ii.;
- Keep themselves informed of the workings of the organization by hearing weekly oral or written reports from the Treasurer and Co-Secretaries on their work;
- Are encouraged to maintain a social network as wide as possible, and stay in tune with current campus issues that may prove of interest to ¡Adelante!’s internal purposes as stated in Article II, Section 1:i, ii and iii.
- Has voice and vote at ¡Adelante!’s regular and executive meetings.
[edit] The U.S. Latino and Chicano Issues Coordinator
- Reports to the Co-Chairs;
- Is responsible for organizing one from every four ¡Adelante! weekly meetings in a discussion format addressing issues and topics relevant to U.S. Latino and Chicano students and the greater community;
- Reflects upon and proposes changes on ¡Adelante!’s statement of purpose in Article II, Section 1 of the present Charter, as specified on Article II Sections 2 and 3;
- Strives to integrate the study of contemporary challenges facing U.S. Latinos and Chicanos through continued dialogue with Latina/o Studies professors and staff with the everyday workings of ¡Adelante!;
- Advocates for and advises ¡Adelante! members on effective strategies to develop and strengthen a Latina/o Studies program by the hiring of more Latina/o Studies professors and the emphasis of Latina/o Studies classes within the departments of American Studies, Hispanic Studies and Latin American Studies.
- Advises the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator, as well as the Operations Assistant, in the planning and execution of the Latino Heritage Month, which takes place from mid-September to mid-October, and the Latino Week, which takes place in the third week of April;
- During Fall, gives input to the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator suggesting issues for the Coordinator’s following Spring activities as stated in Article IV, Section 6.i.g.
- Has voice and vote at ¡Adelante!’s regular and executive meetings.
[edit] The Latin American Issues Coordinator
- Reports to the Co-chairs;
- Is responsible for organizing one from every four ¡Adelante! weekly meetings in a discussion format addressing issues and topics relevant to Latin America and its relationship with Latin American students and the greater community;
- Reflects upon and proposes changes on ¡Adelante!’s statement of purpose in Article II, Section 1 of the present Charter, as specified on Article II Sections 2 and 3;
- Coordinates with other student organizations in bringing together issues and activities that have an effect in Latin America, to ¡Adelante! members and the greater community;
- Avises the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator, as well as the Operations Assistant, in the planning and execution of the Latino Heritage Month, which takes place from mid-September to mid-October, and the Latino Week, which takes place in the third week of April;
- During Fall, gives input to the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator suggesting issues for the Coordinator’s following Spring activities as stated in Article IV, Section 6.i.g.
- Has voice and vote at ¡Adelante!’s regular and executive meetings.
[edit] The Senior Adviser
- Informs the Issues Coordinators and Co-Chairs of the overall history of ¡Adelante!, assisting them in articulating consistent strategic directions for ¡Adelante!;
- Advises the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator and the Operations Assistant on procedures;
- Introduces new officers to community members and organizations with which ¡Adelante! has already established a working relationship;
- Has voice and vote at ¡Adelante!’s regular and executive meetings.
[edit] Assistant Team Officers
shall have the following powers and responsibilities:
[edit] The Latino Heritage Month Coordinator
- Reports to the Co-Chairs;
- Oversees the planning and execution of Latino Heritage Month, which takes place from Mid-September to Mid-October;
- Coordinates such planning in cooperation with all involved parties – namely, the Assistant Director of Campus Programs for Multicultural Life, The Lealtad-Suzuki Center, the Admissions Office, which are all part of the Department of Multicultural Life, student organizations, and community members/organizations.
- Brainstorms with the Issues Coordinators to reflect a diversity of issues during the lectures, performances and other events throughout the Latino Heritage Month;
- Aids the formation of Event Committees in charge of specific Latino Heritage Month events and assists them in organizing the work;
- During November and December, is responsible for planning ahead for Spring meetings;
- During Spring, is responsible for organizing one from every four of ¡Adelante!’s weekly meetings in which issues relating to tentative Latino Heritage Month topics for the following Fall will be presented as a foreshadowing of Latino Heritage Month – such meetings may consist of bringing community members or speakers to share their views on issues, or showing of videos, or what the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator deems appropriate;
- Has voice at Executive Board meetings.
[edit] Operations Assistant
- Reports to the Assistant Team Officers;
- Assists Event Committees in faring through the bureaucratic processes of college event planning;
- Aids the formation of Event Committees throughout the year;
- Should a particular Event Committee miss key members or in otherwise remain in precarious operational conditions, under the Assistant Team’s consensus, directly participates in Event Committees;
- Has voice at Executive Board meetings.
[edit] The Treasurer
- Reports to the Co-Chairs;
- Prepares a budget proposal for each semester in cooperation with the Issues Coordinators as well as the Latino Heritage Month Coordinator and Operations Assistant, and following the guidelines set by the Financial Advisory Commission of the student government;
- Keeps budget records and advises ¡Adelante! of upcoming financial matters;
- Is responsible for financial transactions;
- Provides budget records to members by request;
- Has voice at Executive Board meetings.
[edit] Co-Secretaries
- Report to the Issues Coordinators;
- Keep minutes of meetings and send out typed copies to members;
- Coordinate agenda with the Co-Chairs for current/following meetings or events;
- Notify members of meetings and events within a period of two academic days;
- In cooperation with the Public Relations Officer, keep an autobiography of Adelante! events through media that both deem appropriate;
- Keep the Public Relations Officer updated on ¡Adelante!’s position towards different issues and upcoming events;
- Has voice at Executive Board meetings.
[edit] Public Relations Office
- Reports to the Co-Secretaries;
- Coordinates volunteers to create publicity for the Macalester and local community of ¡Adelante! events through flyers, e-mails, and publications.
- Should the Public Relations Officer not be successful at recruiting publicity volunteers or should the event be of an impending nature, the officer should create the materials by himself and call for help from the Executive Board and Assistant Team officers.
- Is a liaison between Macalester’s Chicano/Latino community and similar organizations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and in ACTC schools;
- Has voice at Executive Board meetings.
[edit] Serving Term
The term of the office for Executive Board members shall be from September to the following September, least they partake on a study abroad program, resign, or are removed from office in accordance to Article VI, Section 6. Adjustments shall be provided by the Executive Board.
