- Alex F distributes a T-shirt design concept emailed by MAria Elena, which has superimposed flags of latin american countries + United States + Puerto Rico and superimpose it with the Latin American map.

[edit] Latina/o Studies Symposium
- Alex F, Carmen, Will, Alex R, Yongho will meet a the Campus Center first floor on monday at 10pm to distribute the remainder of flyers.
- Maria Elena encourages everyone to come to the symposium.
[edit] Activist Roundtable
- Carolina Paz invited people to the Activist Roundtable, taking place on April 16th (Sat) at UMN. The invitation talks about sharing knowledge about resources, and creating a "toolbox" for local progressive networks. Participation fee is $25 on a sliding scale. She was meant to come to our meeting to talk about it but she didn't come.
- yongho said the roundtable didn't seem to be worth it.
- Alex F and Alex R want to go but it's Admissions weekend. (PFs visit)
- Alex F will inquire further on why there needs to be a payment and on whether there needs to be a confirmation.

- Budget is due on Friday April 8th
- yongho gives a brief overview of the budgetting process and the criteria that are considered when deciding budget assigments
- Alex F mentions ASA's recent $9,000 additional allocation for ASA Month as an example of how generous MCSG can be when events are well planned

[edit] Mac Fair Trade's Anti-CAFTA action
- Claire Stoscheck explains that Mac Fair Trade (MSFT) is organizing a call-in day to a person that Octavio at the Minnesota Fair Trade Coalition has pinpointed as the person on whom to wage a lobbying campaign. The call-in occurs on April 13th (Wednesday) during lunch and dinner periods at the basemenet of the Campus Center, and Adelante! members can help by coming and calling.
- yongho mentions tha MSFT meetings are wednesday evenings at 10pm in the Capmus Center

- Will is very busy, cannot work on LHM
- Alex F proposes setting a new LHM coordinator

- Alex F proposes "Bridgingin Domestic and International Latino Students" as a LHM theme
- someone proposed calling it transnational studies of latinidad (or somehitng) as it sounds cooler
- Pier proposes having a talk on the experiences of dictatorship in Latin American countries - he recently had a conversation with an incoming PF from Peru on Fujimori.

- Maria Elena is leaving to Williams College American Studies Department to teach latina/o studies there, after intents to introduce latina studies at Mac didn't work.
- Provost Dan Hornbach offered to let her come back if she's not happy with Williams
- part of a larger phenomenon in the Hispanic Studies department on pure academia/civic engagement and language+literature/culture spain/others etc

- Jim Stewart (director of Latin American Studies Program) and Galo Gonzalez are drafting a letter to be signed by faculty, and it would help that students also sign the letter. The letter will say that Maria Elena needs to come back
- Adelante! could issue a letter addressed to President Rosenberg, Joi Lewis, Karla Benson Rutten, LTAM - Jim Stewart, HCST - Clay Steinman, Dan Hornbach, Jan Serie - Director of CST, and all professors at American Studies and Hispanic Studies.
- Will Clarke is interested in writing an editorial
- someone proposed having Jessica Masterson write a mac weekly article on the issue
- in the meantime, one possibility is having a visiting instructor on Latino Studies from the UMN (a specialist, not some other discipline faculty with latia studies as a side menu)
- Letter in the works

- Raymond Robertson will be replacing Jim Stewart next year as the director of Latin American Studies, and he is supportive generally along with Paul Dosh
- April 11th Jim and Galo will meet to discuss the draft - Alex F asked if students can come to just observe and catch up with the process and ME says that's possible.
[edit] Diversity Weekend
- DW is being organized by Eliza Rasheed.
- Will says that former DW organizers (Grace Awantang, Eliza Rasheed are wary that DW is coopted by PB and that PB will stand by willing to help but not completely taking over DW
- Aaron says that ex-DW people should send a letter to Salsa del Soul apologizing for what happened in the last concert, since a professoinal dancer came in and told the musicians to stop playing so that he could show how to dance.
