[edit] Seminar Format

The primary purpose of the seminar is for you to work on a research project that will mark a summary and climax of the training you have had in anthropology. At the same time, the work that you do in this course should lay the foundation for your next step after graduation — work, graduate study, etc.

Your project may be based on original ethnographic research you have done, on library research, or a study abroad project. It should be of professional quality that you could show to a prospective employer or graduate school as indicative of the type of work you can do.

In addition to the project itself, the seminar offers an opportunity for you to improve your oral communication skills. Toward this end there are several small exercises that will be prepared outside of class and presented in class. The manner in which this is done will be included in the calculation of the final grade.

Your final grade will be based primarily on the research paper that you write. To successfully complete the course and to get a grade, however, you are expected to complete ALL the assignments listed.
